THE LAST PAGE is an errand BROTHER CALLOW hands out on BOOT HILL, and it wants level 99 reached.
It is not offered cold: THE MAN WHO TEARS THE PAGES has to be handed in first — and being a campaign chain, that may well have been on another venue entirely, to somebody else.
And it only appears from JESUS CHRIST! up — a run on a gentler rung never sees it offered.
The book the machine files people in, held eleven years by a park hand who cannot read a word of it, opened at last with the needle that bound it. Every name the CORE wrote off is in here, priced; the hero's is in here twice. It will not take a new entry off a man it cannot price, and it prices a man by everything he could become — so the last page is earned, never fetched.
What it asks
| SHAPE | WHAT | HOW MANY |
|---|---|---|
| CLIMB | LEVEL 99 | — |
- CAMPAIGNThis errand belongs to the hero rather than to the run. Its progress is carried between venues and survives leaving the map, its chain crosses the whole campaign, and anything a conversation told you along the way still counts two venues later. It is tracked per difficulty, so a fresh rung starts the chain again.
- A CLIMBThis one cannot be finished by playing better on any map — only by playing more of the game. The tracker words it as the climb (LEVEL 96/99) rather than as a tick-box, because that is the honest thing to show somebody a long way from the answer.
What it pays
Handing it in pays experience and 2000 coins.
The experience is authored as a SHARE of your own level bar — 0.5 of one — rather than as a figure, so the same errand is worth the same fraction of a level on the first map and the last. The table below is what that comes to for a hero at the level this venue is tuned for; take it later and it pays more.
| WHAT | HOW MUCH |
|---|---|
| COINS | 2000 |
| CLEAN SLATE | 1 — every stat point refunded into a pool and the whole build re-placed, spent whenever you like |
| DIFFICULTY | HERO LEVEL | XP |
|---|---|---|
| EASY | 31 | 26656 |
| MEDIUM | 32 | 30941 |
| HARD | 35 | 49751 |
| NIGHTMARE | 54 | 1116474 |
The chain
Comes after THE MAN WHO TEARS THE PAGES.
A chain never crosses a map or a run: the quest log belongs to the run you are in rather than to the hero, so every link of one is taken, done and handed in on a single visit, from the same person.
What is said
The errand in the giver's own words, covered until you ask for it.
